The Power of Cummunications: Improving Public Relations for 27 Years

We Are

Sawchuk Brown Associates and the City of Albany

Inextricably linked, inevitably related

Shortly after Pamela Sawchuk established her firm with initial client The Picotte Companies (still a client almost three decades later), she received a call from Mayor Erastus Corning II. He wanted her to help boost visibility and generate more excitement about the Albany Tulip Festival. Although the budget was very small and she was just setting up shop, her commitment to Albany (and the charm of the long-time Albany mayor) persuaded her to take on the challenge.

Since then, her firm has been inextricably linked to "the Albany experience" and has advanced in tandem with the city. For 28 years, the firm has been a perennial promoter of Albany, its organizations, corporations and institutions. Remaining anchored in downtown since 1979, the firm has encouraged businesses and individuals to do likewise; successfully handled numerous downtown Albany clients; improved collaboration and communication across the city; and donated thousands of hours to Albany-based nonprofit organizations and government programs.

Sawchuk Brown Associates' staff has served as trustees of institutions such as the Albany Institute of History & Art, Albany Medical Center, Albany Public Library, Albany Roundtable, the Downtown Albany BID and others. Pamela Sawchuk Brown, a long-time director of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber, chaired the chamber's board during a recent period of considerable growth. The firm has responded to requests from city and state officials to support Albany through pro bono work and service on committees on education, health care, seniors, youth, neighborhood revitalization, economic development, cultural diversity, the waterfront, arts and entertainment and even on the Albany Census team.

A sampling of its Albany-based clients have included: ALDC, the Albany Institute of History & Art, Capital Rep, First Albany, Key Bank, Capitalize Albany, Einhorn Yaffee Prescott, Capital Culture, Whiteman Osterman & Hanna, the Downtown BID, State University of New York Central Administration, the Steuben Athletic Club, Urbach, Kahn & Werlin, the New York Business Development Corp. and more.

The firm has helped introduce new downtown hotel 74 State, the Albany Hilton Hotel, the original Capitalize Albany project, the Hudson River Way bridge, the Steuben Athletic Club, the Pastures Project, the Historic Arbor Hill project, buildings including 625 Broadway (the new DEC headquarters), E-Commerce Plaza, 74 North Pearl, 79 North Pearl and others.

When the city sought to commemorate its 300th birthday, it was Sawchuk Brown that came up with the theme "Still Making History" and promoted Albany nationally. When the county was considering sites for what became the Knickerbocker Arena (now Times Union Center), Sawchuk Brown helped make the argument and frame the key messages on why it should be downtown, rather than at proposed sites in Latham and Colonie.

When the city wanted to celebrate a renowned literary native son, Sawchuk Brown brought together cultural, government and business leaders in the very popular "William Kennedy's Albany," bringing national attention to Albany.

When there was a need to raise money and awareness about a new pedestrian bridge to link downtown with the river, Sawchuk Brown helped create the Hudson River Way campaign.
